How to get there?

By car :

It takes one day to get to the Chartreuse by car from London. Most of the trip is by motorway. After booking you will receive travel directions. A few distances: London 1050 kms; Glasgow 1630 kms; Manchester 1315 kms, Birmingham 1170 kms; Dublin 1440 kms.

By train :

It also takes one day to travel to the Chartreuse by train. First by Eurostar to Paris and then by TGV to Chambéry. The timetable below shows the most convenient connection. The TGV arriving in Chambéry around 17h17 connects with a bus to St. Pierre d’Entremont (see further below)

A=Arrival

There are two ways to organize transportation from Chambéry to Le Villard:

1. From the Gare Routière next to the SNCF-station at Chambéry a bus leaves at 18h20 for St.Pierre d’Entremont. Note: not on Sundays and holidays. Fare is € 5,40 per person. The bus arrives at the Tourist Office at St.Pierre d’Entremont at about 19h15. Here you will be collected by us free of charge for the last three kilometres. Please let us know in advance if you wish to use this service.
2. With prior notification we can also arrange to have you collected by taxi at the station in Chambéry. Fare about € 48,- per trip; after 19h00 and on Sundays and holidays € 68,- to be paid to the taxi driver.

If you wish to return to London by train, note that there is no bus service to Chambéry in the morning. You will have to hire a taxi (see the fares above).

By plane:

• EasyJet has direct flights from London and Bristol to Grenoble.
• RyanAir has direct flights from London to Grenoble. Ryanair and Easyjet fly from Shannon/Belfast/Dublin via London to Grenoble. With prior notification a taxi service can be arranged.
• AerLingus flies from Dublin direct to Lyon and Geneva. From Lyon airport there is a shuttle bus service that departs hourly to the central train station in Grenoble. Likewise, train and bus services go from Lyon airport to Chambéry at less frequent intervals. Arrangements for a taxi service from Grenoble or Chambéry to Le Villard can be made upon request. As mentioned above, there is a bus service from Chambéry train station to St. Pierre d’Entremont that departs daily at 18:20, but not on Sundays and holidays.
  Visitors may prefer to rent a car at the airport for the duration of their stay. After booking you will receive travel directions for the trip by car from the airport.
