Walking holiday
The ‘Parc Naturel Régional de la Grande Chartreuse’ is situated in the South-east of France, on the edge of the Alps, between Grenoble and Chambéry. Numerous walks can be made here. The area is a perfect paradise for plant-lovers. Little villages, small chapels, and monasteries alternate with flowering meadows and groves. Above the tree line, at about 1600 metres, the wood changes into rough alpine plateaus. A network of footpaths meanders through the valley and the alpine meadows to summits of more than 2000 metres.

In the Chartreuse you will find the famous Carthusian monastery. It is possible to walk round the imposing building. In the museum belonging to the monastery you will get an idea of the life of the monks in and around the monastery. A totally different museum is the little church of St. Hugues, the interior of which has been designed in a contemporary, religious style by the artist Arcabas.
At about a 25 kms drive lies the largest but two natural lake of France, the Lac d’Aiguebelette. It is a lovely spot to go for a swim and to sunbathe on one of the little beaches.
The cities of Chambéry and Grenoble are just 35 kms away. They both are more than worth a visit because of their very special location among the high mountains and their many museums and parks. A wine route leads you by car through the regional vineyards of the Savoie and offers tasting of local wines.
In the immediate vicinity of Grenoble and Chambéry are four golf courses, namely in Bresson, Uriage les Bains, Seyssins and Apremont. The first mentioned has 18 holes, the others 9.
